Lyrics poster
Lemon—Kenshi Yonezu
レモンー米津玄師
The goal of this project was to create a poster that conveys the chosen words through connotative and visual expression. I focused on the song Lemon by Kenshi Yonezu, which served as the theme song for the drama Unnatural (2018), a series addressing social issues and unnatural deaths.
This poster was the very first project I undertook in my graphic design career, marking the beginning of my exploration into visual storytelling through typography and cultural elements. It laid the foundation for my approach to combining meaning and aesthetics in design.
Recognizing the unique structure of Japanese characters compared to Latin alphabets, I arranged the lyrics vertically to reflect traditional Japanese writing. The key phrase, “Even now, you’re my light,” symbolizes the pursuit of hope and belief amid difficult circumstances. To evoke this mood, I used a dark background accented with flowing gold and white liquid paint textures. Other characters have blurred edges that blend subtly into the composition, while the character for “light” (光) is emphasized as the largest and brightest element, enhanced with a glowing white effect to highlight its significance.
